Things to Do in Port Perry With Kids in the Summer
Paddleboarding & Kayaking
Swimming isn’t the only way to enjoy Lake Scugog in the summer. Why not rent a paddleboard or kayak and do some exploring on the water? Port Perry Marina along with a few other shops in town offer rental equipment for all skill levels, making it easy for families to enjoy a day on the water.
Explore Downtown Port Perry
Just steps from the water is Port Perry’s downtown district which has been well-preserved to highlight the town’s rich history. Beyond simply enjoying the unique ambience of the area, there’s lots to check out downtown, from local cafes and restaurants to boutique shops and specialty stores.
Scugog Shores Museum Village
Another great place to check out as a family is the Scugog Shores Museum Village. You can explore historic buildings and look at artifacts that tell the story of the region’s past. It’s fun – but you’ll also learn something!

Things to Do in Port Perry With Kids in the Winter
One of the best things about Port Perry is that you don’t need warm weather to have a good time. As an all-season outdoor paradise and cultural hub, there are lots of family-friendly activities to enjoy once it gets chilly.
Ice Skating & Ice Fishing
When temperatures drop, Lake Scugog becomes a playground for ice skating and if you like, ice fishing. There are a handful of well-maintained hockey rinks right on the lake, as well as the free Lakefront Skating Rink located right along the shore.
Snowshoeing
Port Perry is surrounded by nature and you don’t have to wait for spring or summer to enjoy it. Snowshoeing is an easy and fun winter activity, and there are lots of places in and around Port Perry to do it. For instance, the trails at Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve are great for snow-covered scenery, and you may even spot local wildlife along the way.

Don’t want to hang outside during the winter months? There’s still lots to do inside! Port Perry is known for its strong arts scene. Winter is a great time to grab the kids and check out a local gallery. Or, if you’re feeling creative, why not sign the family up for an art class in town?
